Submarines in Finnish and Swedish Waters

The Finnish military says it has dropped depth charges onto a suspected submarine in the sea outside Helsinki after twice detecting the presence of a foreign object in the area.
The navy's maritime operations chief, Olavi Jantunen, says they could not identify the "underwater object" but had begun an investigation, which could take weeks.
Parliamentary defense committee spokesman Jussi Niinisto said Tuesday that the military occasionally detects such activity but described the use of depth charges as unusual.
The intrusion comes in the wake of a lengthy hunt for a foreign submarine in Swedish waters in October following increased military activity in the Baltic Sea region.
Swedish officials never blamed any country though most defense analysts said Russia was a likely culprit.

From Democrat to Conservative Independent

I was born in Chicago during the reigns of FDR and Mayor Edward J.Daley, both Democrats.  I have ambivalent feelings about FDR. On one hand, he gave be Social Security in 1935, the year I was born.  On the other hand, he was the instigator of the “Nanny” state, cradle to grave coverage for all!  What a complete and utter disaster!  Absent the SS system, I would have had to save on my own for my retirement, what a novel concept!
Through a combination of hard work, luck and determination, I was able to break free of the Union (IBEW) mentality and go on to have a reasonably successful career in the Telecommunications Industry, beginning as an installer and finishing up as State President for an Independent telephone company that was swallowed up by GTE, and then Verizon.
Back in my early years growing up in Chicago, being a Democrat meant that one got one’s garbage picked up, snow plowed, dead trees removed, etc., all through the kindness of one’s local Alderman.  All this had only one cost: vote a straight Democratic ticket no matter who was running!  Of course they didn’t know how one voted behind the magic curtain, but usually the Democrats won big, especially in local elections, even though the country went Republican, witness Eisenhower, Nixon et al.
I know that Chicago was not the only city infected with this cancerous affliction.  Look at Detroit, Washington, DC, Philadelphia, Boston and New York, just to hit the highlights of the Nation’s embarrassments.
For a long time after ridding myself of the Democratic yoke of allegiance, I was a Republican with a marginally less heavy yoke.  However, the recent election and re-election of Barak Hussein Obama and the pathetically weak Republican efforts to unseat him and roll back his Progressive Liberal agenda has pushed me into the Independent Conservative Tea-Party realm where I can feel free to push the effort to hold the line and de-fund Obama care for example, before it bankrupts the Country and dilutes the health care system by putting it under the thumb of what is fast becoming a “do as I please” regime without respect for the Constitution, while giving lip-service to it.
Our foreign policy is in a shambles thanks to Obama and Clinton.  Benghazi is a disgrace and an embarrassment, while Putin seem to be dictating the terms of any scenario in Syria.  The Pentagon is run by a person who appears to have just woken up every time he is seen on TV, the State Department is now run by an ex-Vietnam war protestor, Kerry, who along with Jane Fonda, ought to be sharing a cell in a maximum security facility somewhere in Colorado.
Oh, and how many czars are there now?  Who knows, and "what does it matter now? (Compliments of Hillary Rodham Clinton).
What a mess!  In my opinion, the Obama administration will go down in our Nation's history as one of, if not the worst we have ever endured.  However, if the Tea Part Conservative ideology does not prevail in the next few years, I might as well move back to Chicago and get back in tune with whatever Democratic regime is in office now!  I'm sure the current Alderman will welcome me with open arms and say "All is forgiven, just remember to vote early and often".
